As I started the Application Rationalization Analysis for my district, it was a bit overwhelming. But, it wasn’t for the fact of having to do a little research to obtain the information which required time and patience. It was overwhelming because during the process and upon completion, I felt that a lot of the district’s questions in regards to technology for curriculum and administrative purposes, could be answered through this process. In addition, through this analysis, I believe that the decision-makers will be empowered to make informed decisions that would benefit all involved and allow for a steady technological advancement and progression in our district and in our classrooms.
After experiencing this analytical approach and after several years of observing various decision making processes in schools, I believe this process is of high importance to any and all educational programs and should be part of their regular practice. Does this analysis take time and manpower? Yes, it takes time to have these discussions with stakeholders, gather information and data and record and study the findings. However, the outcomes of this analysis will provide the answers and information that will guide educational programs in making informed decisions that will allow for progress and benefit schools, not only financially, but in supporting their mission and vision.
I have observed many decisions being about a program or application made without any consideration or analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, outcomes, or functions to a program or school. The decisions were made based on the knowledge, lack of knowledge or opinion of a few. The lack of an Application Rationalization Analysis has created an obstacle towards advancement. One the other hand, with this process, as an established practice, coordination, efficiency and control can be realized.
